Dear Abby;
I got my 1.6 TBI Geo conversion installed into my 1987 Samurai and running and it is great. New problem. Weight to power ratio. The hills I used to climb with ease I now loose traction on even in 4 low. I have less than 3000 miles on 235/75R15 General Grabbers on 7 inch wheels. Same tread as Goodrich T/A's.
 
My wife is properly proportioned to height and weight. Should I leave her home and find a fat girlfriend instead?

A/T tread is a little weak for off roading, some MTs would do nicely

Hey, I go just about everywhere all my wheeling buddies go with BFG AT KO's. I do try to avoid deep mud thouygh, just too messy!

If you trade in your passenger....dont go to big. ;) Too much traction + with more power usually leads to things breaking. Of coarse with 235s you probably dont have a whole lot to worry about as far as breaking goes...

I always recommend a mud terrain too, but if its a DD thats not always practical. I'm sure with practice you can learn to control the wheel spin but like bentparts mentioned you have to choose your battles with ATs.

What are you running for a suspension?  A track bar on the rear might help with the power transfer on getting the power to the ground. 

We did a 4 link on a Samurai using rear springs from a Grand Vitara, they were to stiff and he couldn't climb anything.  The rear end would just slide around much like you were talking about.  Swapping to a set of lighter springs from a Geo Tracker fixed the issue and got rid of the spring wrap that was causing his rear end to bounce around when powering up hills.
