oil plug leak
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:27:05 PM »
I've got a fairly substantial leak from my oil plug on my truck,  I'm kinda wondering, how big a deal is it to rethread or helicoil the threads if needed?

also, what thread pattern/pitch is the plug?   I cant exactly pull it out and just look at that for obvious reasons.  kinda need to be able to drive it to get anotehr plug if need be.

???buy a copper gasket at any auto parts store.....they make them outa plastic and out of copper. It should do the trick :-\ but again you got to drain the oil first ;)!

not even teflon tape? Yes, you  might have to go with a heli coil and here in Honolulu they got em at the local checker auto parts.... see if you got a store in your area and give them a call and see what they say or advise! Good luck...

At Murrays, now O'reilly,s I have purchased a self-tapping, oversized drain plug for my sister's Concorde due to a strong arm service tech that stripped the OEM plug.  It hasn't leaked since.  Call around.  Good luck
