Newby with an 1986 sami I love for $500.00 Just got it!!!

Okay I'm new so I need advise on where to start with this thing.
Never had one heard they were awesome!!! I'm so happy I have it.
I will put a list up soon of things that need to be fixed and more photos soon.
Good news is it run's!!! I totaled my land rover and I got this with the settlement.
I have around 500-1000 that I can put towards making it trail ready, any advice you can give will be appreciated.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun.  Congrats!

Probably swap out that fuel filter, it doesn't look to healthy.  I would invest in a proper roll cage, get rid of that square stock mess that is on there now.  Then pick up a set of bumpers and go.  What do you plan on using it for?  That will help with the suggestions on possible builds from those that have Samurai's built up for your intended purpose.

wow.  no offense, but for $500, that thng looks like a HUGE project undertaking.   I paid $500 cash for mine, and just needed new wheel bearings and an oil change plus battery.   plus its road legal.    that thing, again, no offense but it looks like a wreck to me.

I must agree, ditch that homebrewed square stock rollcage nd get a good one,  some good bumpers, better tires, the general stuff to make it useful offroad.     I think for most general offroading, 4hi is plenty sufficient, considering how low the gears are set up stock on this little bugger.   oh yeah, adjust your valves.  go by the sticker under your hood, if its still there.   it'll save you money, and really just takes like an hour to adjust them, if you're going slow,  or 20-30 mins at a normal pace.

Looks like you will have a great time with your Zuk, building a HUGE project is most of the fun you make
it how you want ;D.
Start by making it road legal and yes replace the fuel filter drive and enjoy then decide what you
want it for: trail only, D/D  then take your time on the build.
I rec. Thorley header and 2" exh. also K&N air filter this will help your hamster breath 4 power.
