i hit financial troubles will this gearing work?
« on: March 11, 2010, 08:23:07 PM »
so as some of you know i was going to be putting the 5.71 gears in my SAS sidekick with toyo axles but my dirt bike and truck decided not enough attention was on them and broke :'(  i now have to devote some money their way taking away for my project fund.  i really want to atleast get this thing on the ground so i am going to mock it up with the stock 4.10s.  does anyone know if doing transfer case gears or a twin t-case set up wil put me low enough for crawling. i was thinking between 31-33 tires.
thanks jon K

4.10 are going to be a struggle in high range, low will be so so ok,
unless you get a set of 4.24 T-case gears, but on road will be a slug

that is what i thought. i wont be driving it much on road, but i am just trying to find the cheapest rout.  i was thinking the 4.24 kit, but doesn't that cost more than doing the diff gears?

there was also a white sidekick that recently did a dual t-case swap. can anyone point me in the direction of his post.  i think he is on 33's.

Toyota gears will be the cheapest route, 4.24s are about $650
twin T-cases are more and you need new driveshafts again, the
Undertaker is a great way to go but it's $1200, toy gears from
Yukon would be the cheapest route, and get at least 5.83 for
a 33-35 tire, higher if you want to crawl, but you will still want
a set of 4.24s to crawl slow and that adds to the bottom line.

k, cause with the dif rebuild, and gears front and rear it comes out to about 660.  will 4.24s push 33's pretty good with 4.10s?

Ya, that should be good, and will be a little lower than stock gearing
on the stock tires, Post some pics when you get putting it back together

Diff gears, Yukon, the other gears are available thru severals
vendors that advertise on this site, you can choose from them,
I would ask about the inventory if you are in a hurry and don't
want any delays in getting the parts
