Help! I just bought a book "You and your Suzuki" UK
« on: March 13, 2010, 04:18:21 PM »
I am new to Zukiworld.  I AM LOCATED IN THE USA.  I am trying to learn as much as I can about Sidekicks/Trackers?

I purchased "you and your Suzuki" on Amazon.  ends up it is a book by Paul Guinness.  published in the UK 2005.

The problem is there is no reference to a "Sidekick".  they have information on "Vitaras".

Are Sidekicks and Vitaras the same (at least as far as early 1988-1998 model)?  the book shows Vitaras were first introduced in 1988. I am interested in 1990-1998 Sidekick.   Will the book help me learn about "Sidekick"?

Hope someone can shed some light!!   any other good general  books/sources for a new guy?

thanks, Snowjob

For reading up on the Samurais and Vitaras there is Gold Portfolio series that is simply a collection of magazine articles, they are a pretty good read:

There was a hardcover book on modifying the Samurai that I can't find, it's a pretty solid starter book.  It had a yellow title and is buried somewhere in boxes down in my storage, I'll see if I can dig it out.

There is a newer book called 'Modifying Suzuki 4x4 for Serious Offroad Action' that you can read a review on at http://zukiworld.com/month_080106/feature_spidertrax_bookreview.htm that might help you out as well.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

Over here first gen models were all called Vitaras and were sold up until 2001 with a petrol model. A commercial (van) version with a TD was sold until 2003.

Back in 2000 there were only about eight Vitaras being offroaded in the UK, mine was one of them, Dave Jones (bits4Vits) was another and so was John Richardson who wrote 'Modifying Suzuki 4x4s for Serious Offroad Action' .
2000 Vitara 1.6, 3+3 Lift, 33"MTs, 5:83s, LWB brakes, Winch, Snorkel, Safari Rack
1986 SJ413K PickUp, 1.6L conversion.

Yea, I recognized the rig on the front of the UK versions of the book.  Kind of hard to miss the Superman logo.  :)
