Hi all,
I live in an area with questionable mechanical expertise, and I have none at all, so I'm looking for a bit of advice.
When travelling at normal speed and braking, there is no problem at all. When travelling at walking pace or slower, anything but a
slightest touch on the brake pedal causes the front wheels to lock, and the brakes stay on. They do release when the car starts moving
but are bound enough to hold the car still on a slight incline.
The local mechanic (there is only one) has on different occasions suggested that this is completely normal, then agreed to remove the
wheels, clean the brakes and top-up brake fluid. When this made no lasting difference, he's suggested the master cylinder should be
replaced. I read that a failing master cylinder causes very different symptoms than this problem. So I'm wanting to check it out.
The car is 19 years old, had new discs and pads throughout about 20 months ago and does not cover a lot of mileage, but probably still
has the original brake system installed. The car has about 120,000km on the clock.
Any advice would be very welcome.
