HEADER ISSUES!!
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:32:01 PM »
ive just installed a 1.6 bottom end with 1.3 head and header. the header is wedged against the bell housing of the 1.6, and not sealing to the 1.3 head. i used 2 gaskets to try to get it out a bit, but it still leaks, and had now cracked the header tube and hits the frame due to the angle. is the 1.6 header longer to get it out from the head??? i am using a "tri-mill"?? header... ???

Take the header off and use a ball-peen hammer to put a dent into that tube that is hitting the engine to make clearance.

yes, the badge says "TRI-MILL" on it, but i thought i remembered it being a Hedman.  It wouldnt matter if the engine was crooked, cuz the head and the block arebolted together, which makes them the same.  the problem is the bell housing is keeping the header from sealing at the bottom of the exhaust ports.

this picture is looking up from the ground at the header. it isnt bent, just the stupid engine block is too wide....

You have 3 options, sell this header and buy one which fits, Do what Ed suggested and dent the pipe where it rubs, or heat up the tubes with a torch and bend them a little to clear the bell housing.
