Fuel leaks out of canister or out of hose on carb 87 sammy
« on: August 18, 2009, 09:48:28 PM »
I have an 87 Sammy that runs fine on smooth ground.   But when you head down the trail and hit a bump or  head up hill it dies.  No sputter no cough just dies.   When I try to start it trys to fire but wont.  After a few min of cranking gas pours out of the canaster mounted on the fender well.   I have pulled the hose that goes from the carb to the canister and as I crank gas spurts out of the carb connection.   I have tapped on the carb just at the port that goes to the canaster and it will stop leaking and start.  An ideas?  ARussell Dallas

thanks for the help.  Does any one know of a carb rebuild by picture or vid ?  Are there any pitfalls in the carb rebuild or is it pretty straight forward?
