Locker or spool?
« on: August 28, 2009, 05:16:34 AM »
I have a bad outer axle seal on my 98' tracker and thought since I have to pull one side apart why not pull both axle's and the third member and install a locker?   At least that was the logic I used on my wife.

My question is.
Will the tracker be able to handle the added stress of a spool? Or do I go somewhat safer and buy a locker? It does get driven on the road ocasionally.  The ARB set up is out of my price range at the moment.

I have been running a spool for a year now. I wheel the crap out of my samurai and drive it down the road at 70 mph. It is worth the hundred bucks ten times. Tire wear does not seem to be an issue on pavement if you keep them aired up. But probably is some extra wear when turning but I have not noticed any. Trail tough is where I purchased mine 2-3 days no hitches talk to Brent. Take the savings and buy some gears.

im trying to figure the same thing out. my kicks daily driven 60km daily, then driving an hour atleast to go wheelin on the weekends. i tow a trailer occationally with it as well. ive heard bad things about the lockrights and how they slip and then engage harshly at times almost putting more stress on the axles then having them scrubbing in the corners.

Thanks for the info!  I am going to get one ordered today in hopes of having it ready for the upcoming Holiday.
