Should I stay or should I go?
« on: June 03, 2009, 01:16:58 PM »
Took my wifey into the rocks on the property last week in my built Sammy.  It wasn't pretty.  She rf'ing freaked trying to get to the hard stuff.  Wouldn't stay in the truck and was getting sick from nerves.  Its literally been about 5 years since I've had her in any off-road situation.

My problem.  I've been gathering part to take my already built IFS GV to a SAS with 37"s as her play toy.  Now she doesn't want it, no matter what I do to it (i.e. full cage).

So, since its not what I want to wheel in, since it was bought/built for her to wheel with the kids and be my support rig, since I don't need 2 built rigs, what do I do?

So do I sell it as it?  Do I part it out (many things are 1 of a kind)?  I know I never will get my $$ back (you never do), but what path should I take?

I'm thinking of selling the GV, and my sano 73' VW Ghia, and put the money into a 4-seater tube buggy so at least I could take the whole family (with the wifey walking next to it).

Honestly, this has sickened me.  i put a LOT of effort into the GV back when no one was building them (still too new), and now its just a pile of parts that she doesn't want taking up space in my shop.

maybe a divorce would be the path of least resistance.

Timmy sad.

My two cents:  Stay!

Sell the VW Ghia and the SAS parts you have assembled (there is a market demand for both).  This will clean the garage up a bit.  Keep the GV (in its current modified form) for light - moderate trail rides with family unit and keep your Sammy for your rock climbing.  Then consider using the money from the Ghia and SAS part sale to purchase/begin to build your tuber buggy project.  This could provide you some bucks for other family needs.  Plus you will still have a truck to drive and one to off-road/rock climb.  The GV goes in the snow so it should be a decent vehicle for the winter months, unless you have a locker in the rear of it.

I think you will take a huge spanking financially trying to sell your GV right now.  The market sucks abit.  It will improve in a few months, but why eat the additional loss now?  The Ghia is a classic car and there will be a buyer for it.  There should be several guys/gals who would be interested in your SAS parts for their rigs.  Especially if you have them mostly rounded up in one place.  Don't be too hard on her.  Interests change as we age.

Wow it been 5 years and I've seen the "hard stuff" on your property. Think I would of gotten sick too.  You've got to start here out on the little stuff again. She was never to into the "hard core stuff" anyways. Sell of SAS stuff and keep the GV as is.  I don't remeber her breaking when wheeling just someone else  :P

Thanks for the words.  but I think I understated Wifey.  She doesn't want to drive it, period.  Not on the road, nor off it.  And if I drive it offroad, it will break.  Blacknight will attest, I don't take the easy route.

As for a DD, I built a 95 4dr with 2" Ironman and 235"s and some bumper action.  It fits the bill and cheaper/safer to drive than the GV.  Its a mall crawler, and will remain so, so the GV becomes redundant.  A built buggy would be better to play with the kids in it (at least for me)

Yeah, I know I'll be hit trying to sell it.  I only wish Wifey would let me put the V6 and auto in the Sammy.

I'm totally perplexed, and rather sad about this (of course, turning 42 tomorrow doesn't add to the happy factor).  Really, sad is the word.  :'(

42 years old... nothing to it!   I just turned 54 a couple months ago and I still go out and trot a few miles each week.  Don't let that small issue get you down if for no other reason than there's absolutely nothing you nor anyone else in this world can do to stop the aging process.

Just maintain your physical conditioning, a positive attitude, outlook on life and spirit and everything else will fall into place as it should.  As far as this issue goes... this too shall pass.  Enjoy life to the fullest.  For some reason we humans never seem to appreciate where we are (physically, financially, etc) today until we look back later in life.

Well then... sell the Ghia, the SAS parts and the GV and go build you the rail that you are dreamin of!

I'm feeling best about that route.  The GV, even with the planned 37"s, under my controls, would have a piece of glass or a straigh body panel in no time at all the way I wheel.  Too much work to have something just for others to drool over at an event.

Yup.  In my future, I see ecotec power pushing toy drive for a light, powerful buggy the whole family (sans Wifey) will play in.

BTW - I'm leaning towards selling off the bits.  Ya never know, the V6 might still work its way into the Sammy. ;)

And in closing, I do appreiate where I am.  Gleaning from my post over at Rok-Freekz.com, Well, I'll be playing on the new stuff, finding new lines, and Wifey got me some Newcastle, so I should have a smile on my face. I have a home, a good wife, wonderful boys, a toy I love and a job to provide for it all. Considering everything in these times, I couldn't ask for a better birthday present.
