1.3 CAM Recomendation please
« on: February 03, 2009, 07:19:10 PM »
I have a new moter with .50 flat top pistons. I need to have the head rebuild and am looking for a CAM Recomendation.

I plan on putting on my Pacesetter header, 2" exhaust, 38 outlaw Weber carb.

I drive this thing as a weekend toy on highway and off. so I dont want a Cam thats too radical.

something that will help in the low to midrange.

Im intrested in hearing what others have done, and how they worked.

are we talking an ISKY, The Isky Power Cam, the RV2 (whatever that is) I know that Johns foreign engine sells them
Whats That ?
Well then go get your tow strap, and Ill be happy to take You and your Jeep to places you've only heard about.

I know where to buy them !  Thas not the question.

I guess I was hoping that the folks here that have done them would share their wisdom of what worked or didnt work for them.

Isky cam
Isky power cam
reground from Hawk
regroung from Johns

I guess nobody's ever installed a Cam in a samurai before, I dont know.

Over the years that I have been a member of the Forum I haven't seen many people play with cams. A couple of people have fitted them but in engines with a good few other mods. Most people just go for an engine swap. Have you tried the search function?

x2

They do what cams do - move the power curve up or down the RPM range. What else did you want to know?

I dont know from experiance how much they helped but i did try to order a Isky cam from RRO and they said Isky wouldnt be able to have any until June because they ran out of cores. Which also brings on another question, I thought Isky cams were supposed to be brand new and not reground? so why are they waiting on cores.

"core" might be a bad word. He probably should have said "blanks". They still need to be ground from something  ;)

I run the Isky cam from RRO I think it was the small one, but it has been 3 years, It was installed on fresh rebuild with I think similar pistons to yours! I have around 10,000mi on it as a DD and a trail rig.  I love mud so it has many pits on it, with my 6.1 to 1 tcase you can turn some RPM's I have buried the tach on more than one occasions, adrelin is a bad thing, but as for trails and crawling it performs well!  Any other input needed let me know I hope this helps! 8)
