CJ/ RUF Help and questions?????
« on: April 18, 2009, 11:42:47 AM »
I am currently running a stock 87 Sami with 235/75 AT tires. I am want to do a CJ/ RUF swap. I have the CJ springs and relocation plates. I was just going to put on RRO 1" longer shackles, and all new poly bushings. But i have spent several hours now reading searches and still have a couple unanswered questions. I am staying SPUA (No $$ for SPOA, and don't want it yet), so do I need drive shaft spacers for this set up? Also do I need longer brake lines? (I removed the sway bar) I see a lot of people saying that I do, but I am not sure if you only need that with a SPOA set up, as from my understanding I will only get 1.5"-2" of lift with this set up depending on spring condition. Any help would be great.

I don't know about the CJ springs, but running rear Sammy springs up front will stretch the wheelbase by about 1 3/8". There is probably enough length in the splines of the driveshaft to accommodate this. If the CJ springs are the same length as the stock Sammy front springs, and the line up bolt is in the center, and are just adding lift, you should be able to do it without spacers. I would recommend installing the spring and flexing the suspension out with a jack under one tire to see how much droop you have. Maybe someone withfirst hand experience will chime in.

Hope I helped

Doing the CJs in the rear, even with it being spring under, you'll still need like a 3/4" spacers, same for the front. You will want to run about 2" longer shackles front and rear. Been there, done that. And put the sway bar back on... It does make a ton of difference with stability, but not that much difference with flex. It is night and day driving it even offroad.

Why the 2" longer shackles? I am running the relocation plates and 1" longer shackles. And with the sway bar off I have noticed a decent amount more flex, with little effects to the actual handling on road.

The CJ front springs are still 6" longer than the stock Sami rears... And you are running the relocation plates in the front as well? You don't need to... Just the 2" longer shackles will do the job of taking up the extra spring length... At both ends...

The CJ springs and YJ springs are the same length... Do you have the springs yet? If so, break out the magical tape measure... They are 3" longer from the bushing eye to the center bolt...

My rear sami springs are still on, my CJ springs are apart for cleaning. But from eye to eye the best I can measure with the sami springs still on its looking closer to 3" longer than 6"
