AIR INTAKE, HIGH MPG AND HORSEPOWER
« on: August 23, 2004, 12:01:52 AM »
I recently bought and installed a custom made air intake (supper funnel), after removing the traditional air box. my suzuki increased speed and horsepower, though the MPG seemed not to change. What I hated most was the increased noise from the front, especially when I would be overtaking or when I accelerate so much. Because of the increased noise, I hated, I had to remove the supper funnel and go back to the traditional box, that reduces noise. So is there anything I can do tom reduce the noise there in?? You can check at http://www.knfilters.com/
Thank you

I would suggest looking at sound deadening materioal like dynamat.  http://www.dynamat.com/.

This stuff looks like tin foil on one side, and has foam padding underneath, then a layer of glue.  I know the stereo shops use it to keep the booming sound in your car, but you can also use it to isolate your car  from road noise and such.  Cover the underside of your hoo, firewall, roof, doors int his stuff, and I bet you'll feel like you're driving around in a sensory deprivation chamber.

Or just learn to live with the noise.  I have never thought of my suzuki as a vehicle I purchased because of its nice quiet ride.

Or do what I did! Just go down to your local wreckers, find some old town cars or anything for that matter and rip the carpeting out, and take out what's underneath. The nice padding fits well under stock carpet in your rig. If the stuff is wet, dry it out first, since a lot of the wrecks you can pull out that stuff get rained on a lot. I was sick of my engine noise running into the car and ruining my audio quality. As for the firewall, get the Dynamat, its cool stuff, but you won't hear too much difference, it will just muffle that badass filter suckin' in the air and freein' up that hp.

If you are looking for a quick/inexpensive solution, all my suggestions take a little bit of time, thats it, as most wreckers will let you take that stuff for free 'cause it's not metal! Doing your doors and firewall is a little tricky, but we all have common sense right?

Hi Guys.
Actually the noise I am talking about is the Throttle noise, which is usually sealed by the air box. but having removed it, the noise is too high at high RPM. At low RPM, there is actually no noise at all, but once it goes to about 3.5RPM, then the throttle noise real increases. So the solution I am looking for is around the air filter issues.

I have no idea if it would work or not, but what about the "PreCharger Filter Wraps" K&N sells on their Website?  Maybe K&N could suggest something.

I don't notice the sound in mine, but then again, with the cat-back exhaust and all of the wind and engine noise, I guess I wouldn't  ::)

Post a fix if you find one; I know I've heard other people with the same complaint on different vehicles, but I haven't heard a solution from anyone yet.

alot of the "buzzing" ricers do is because of the cold air intakes..not because of the exh. =)

if u want a cold air intake system like that it is something u will have to live with...
