tracker 5.83s on 35s paging mike hagen
« on: April 06, 2009, 01:38:20 PM »
ok I just got a set of 5.83s with a spool and Im looking at upsizing form my 31s to a larger set..intially I was going to run 33x1050 bfg mt's but I saw hagens rig on 5.83s and was wondering if it would be able to run around on 35s...Ive got a 16v 2 door with 5 speed (3 inch bodylift and 4 door springs)

my front 4 door springs are sagging so i suppose a 1.5 or 1.25" spacer in front and a 1.75 or 1.5 in rear will suffice along with sufficient trimming

What do you mean by "could be able to run"  ??? I've made it through the 'con on 35" tires and 4.88 gears & an auto :o Runs like a TURD on-street though. There's not much difference between a 5.125 and 5.83 (~14%), should get you corrected to a 30/31" tire as far as stock gearing. Running 35" tires would be ~14% bigger than 31", so... it should act approximately like running 31" tires with stock gearing (Turd). Carry a whole set of spare 1/2 shafts, CV's and rear axle shafts. You're going to need them with stock axles & 35"ers.

35s is mainly a dream...In reality thought 33 1050s are what I want to run...

I'm running 34" LTB Swampers on my rig, and I will tell you that just adding 5.83's won't be enough.   If you're going to wheel your rig, you'll need some transfer case gears, unless you enjoy smoking clutches.  You'll also need to add a bit more lift and/or trim back your fenders.

I'm running a combination of  5.38 gears, 4.24 t-case, and extensive mods to the suspension and drivetrain.....

You can do it, but be prepared to mod your rig.

well tcase gears wont be able to get here for awhile...It does just fine on 31s with 5.13s (and thats with heavy swampers) so I think It would be alright on 33/1050 bfg mts

I had a similar setup to yours  (31" Swampers, 5.12, 5 Speed), and it was okay, but when you step up to 33-35", it's a big difference.

4.10 R&p, 6.5:1 T-case, with 34 LTBs.  High range is useless off road, unless just jamming along on a trail.
Gearing may bring you back to "stock" but only more power can make up for the loss due to rotational mass. A doubler would make things right, and give you lots more gearing options.

I ran 33x12.5 on a 2door 5 speed, never had a problem offroad.  with the 35s and 5.83 youre ok
it will act like 30s on a stock drivetrain
