weber problems
« on: April 08, 2009, 04:36:10 PM »
Just installed a weber 32/36 and it will barely idle with the choke closed but if i hit the gas it dies. If i open the choke it won't even start. I capped off all unused vacuum ports and i capped off my egr valve. If i dump fuel down the carb it will run until the gas burns up then dies. I pulled the fuel line off the carb and cranked it over and lots of fuel comes out of the line so its not the pump. I am out of ideas any help is appreciated.

make sure you haven't overlooked some vacuum leak.
is this a new unit(w/mounting instructions?)?
perhaps some crap in the idle jets, but it should still be able to run on the mains(sorta at least) w/ throttle open(i think).
these things are pretty simple, but initial setup instructions are important.
try this:
pull the idle jets to confirm they are clean( are you running a fuel pressure regulator?), jets probably #60?.
back out idle screw 'till off the throttle lever(w/choke off high idle cam), then screw in 1-1 1/2 turns.
gently screw mixture screw till it stops, then back out 2 turns.
if all else is good- it should run(probably idling high).
further adjustments would follow, but that should be close enough to know that it's working ok.

It is a brand new unit but i dont have a regulator on it but i think the problem is that it is not getting enough gas. I heard that the factory pump gives it to much gas but i am not getting enough into the carb.

i used the stock fuel pump and had no problem, but put a regulator on it pretty quick as i was afraid it might be too much at high revs.
used an empi regulator 'cause it was cheap and i've used them successfully in the past.
since this was a new unit, you got the tuning scrip, right?
they(redline/weber) have a tech service for a short time(i've never used), but you might open the thing up and see if anything weird is happening w/the float settings or whatever.
you're sure |removethispart|@ vacuum leaks?
