Using a snatch block pulley with your winch line (double lining the pull) doubles your pull ratio. So... if you have a #3,000 winch you should be capable of a #6000 snatch (or #7,000 with a #3,500 winch). That is absolutely maxing out the capability/amp draw on your #3,000 winch not to mention the battery on your truck. 4-door Trackers run right at #4,000s so in theory you would be capable of winching 1.5 times your truck's weight. Providing the cable/line on your #3,000 pound winch is rated for #6,000 pound pulls.
So a #3,000 winch is better than none and should work for most applications except mud sticks. If you buried your beast in mud... with the suction factor mud has you might be challenged to pull it out with even an #8,000 winch... if you can't break the suction bond.
The type motor winding on your winch (permanent magnet cheaper - series wound better) and gear ratio of the winch are big limiting factors as well because of how fast they heat up and ease of failure.
That said, when you do get stuck out in the sticks, it isn't always an exact science. You don't always know and can't always calculate EXACTLY what the resistance forces are so it turns into more of "if a little may be enough... then more is better". Like cratering roads or blowing timbers. There is a general formula for each application, but it never hurts to add an extra pound of explosive to it to make sure you have enough kick to finish the job.
WARN makes a #4,000 UTV winch that would probably be a good compromise over a #3,000 one. Bigger is usually always better because it provides you more options. That's why winch companys generally recommend you buy a winch capable of at least 1.5 times the pull of you vehicle weight... so a #6,000 pound winch in the case of the Trackers/GVs. For me, I'd be comfortable with a #4,000 receiver mounted winch. You can mount it on either end of the truck or throw it in the garage when you didn't need it. If I totally bought into the "bigger is better" theory, I wouldn't have bought all the Trackers and Sidekicks. I would own a Hummer or something.
