More Power Switch ???
« on: March 06, 2009, 08:16:06 PM »
My 1997 LSI 4 door has a Power switch says in Car book to flip the switch on hills or passing or any time more power is needed.
I have tryed it a few times but dont feel no Burst of power.
Does the More power switch effect the Transmission or the Fuel injectors  ???

The Car Manual just says to use the switch not what it does.

On a Good note tho its gona snow tomorrow up here i checked out the Air conditioning and it seems to work fine. A freind told me to use the Air at least once a month just to keep it operating 100% something about seals ect if ya dont use it for 6 to 9 months.
Global warming my ass to! its been the coldest winter here in 14 Years sonw and - 5 on the B.C coast in March is not global fricken warming.
Tho if snows comeing my Tracker is ready  ;)

I think all it does is locks the trans in a lower gear longer to get more rpms up

Yet the middle west of the U.S. is seeing record high temps and the lower south is seeing huge drought conditions. Denver broke 138 year old records for high temps this week. You cant use localized weather pattterns to completely dis-spell global warming.

On my 02 tracker ZR2 I have two switches one is POWER/NORMAL and the other is on the shift lever and switches out the overdrive(4th-auto trans) gear.

The more power button changes the shift point of the trans to higher RPM's thru all gears.
Just play around with it and you'll see.

I have found on my tracker that by just switching off the overdrive the car will get and go very well but the power button just seems to get it revving to much to do much good IMO.
02 Tracker ZR2 2 door (mostly stock-BORING)
05 trailblazer LS stock and staying that way-it's our tow vehicle.

I find it funny that this topic is brought up.

I've been wondering about that switch myself.  :)

Lately, I've been driving it in Power mode. I find that the shifts are a little better for me because it runs the gear a little longer. I also find that it will down shift with a little less throttle than normal, which works for my application better.

I guess with it in Normal, it shifts normal and drives normal, but for my lift and gearing I found that it shifted too soon and I felt like it was lugging or underpowered.

I was even thinking of selling my Tracker because I didn't like how sluggish it was. Then, I flipped the switch and paid attention to my driving, speeds, roads, and down shifting.

Now, it is NOT a Night and Day difference, you will have to pay attention to it and think of those examples when comparing differences.

Also, I have the O/D turned off 95% of my driving. I stay in town and don't really go more than 45 mph around town. On the Highway, I'll run it up to 60, then I'll flip the O/D on.

I find that the O/D OFF keeps my rig from shifting into a final drive that is Not right for me.

Oh yeah, I should mention some specs.

'96 Geo Tracker, 4 door, 16 valve, Auto with O/D, 4 wheel drive. Calmini 3 + 3, 9" rear, Anvil front, 5.83's and Detroits, 4.23 to 1 t-case, and 32" MTR's.

i have no experience w/suzuki auto trans, but i assume it is similar to others(toyota) and the power switch changes the shifting pattern.
stay in gear longer and mabe downshift earlier.
several manufacturers started doing this in the 80's-90's, i think.
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.
suzi the psychic gets me fishing.

OK Thanks  :) I did kinda notice it climbed the hillls here Better with the Power switch on Power.
The dash light comes on showing its on.

I like the OD swich off to as im on a small Island with 60 KMs speed limits.

So driveing with the OD switch off just turns the Auto trany into a 3 Speed ??
 Is that how it works?

I will play more with the Normal / Power switch that i know its to do with gearing.
