The head was sent out for resurface, some welding around water ports, and hot tank.
The block cleaned up with brake cleaner, soft brass brush, and a air wheel with a soft steel wool type pad.

The gasket kit and bolts was like $60 off ebay.
Valve job was $195, heck I could have got a rebuilt for $250 from online, and if my water sleeves were much worse I would have.
I reused timing belt and water pump looked OK.(OTHERWISE $140~)
Two cans of paint $12(primer and red extreme engine heat paint)
4 sparks plugs bosch platinum $12
1 can brake cleaner $3
Bought some misc nuts 8mmX1.25 for exhaust, and a few new bolts $6
Two gall antifreeze $18 (although prestone buy 1 get 1 free)
Borrowed neighbors torque wrench for head bolts 46-50 lbs (free)
Borrowed neighbors air sander thingy and pad (free)
bag of rags $8
radiator was replaced last month $160
thermostat and gasket $8
about 4 hours to remove, 6 hours to put back together.
When I took the head in the shop moved it off tdc so I guessed, and guessed right because it started right up (yipee!)
NOTE: TAKE DIGITAL PICTURES OF EVERYTHING, IT REALLY HELPS FOR REFERENCE.
