Rust free!...except...
« on: January 21, 2009, 06:05:29 AM »
The only rust problem on my whole 99' tracker is where the six main points the body bolts to the frame. A couple of these are severe and appear to be settling. Can I crawl under and treat these spots with POR15? I'm afraid if I try to unbolt it I will cause more damage. Was there a problem with rust in this area on all trackers and vitaras? Why don't I see anything about this in any of the forums? I find lots about rusty gas tank braces, cross members and rocker panels but very little about body mount rust. It's a shame because this is the only rust problem on the whole tracker. Anyone else have this?

I have rust holes on both my rocker panels on my 99 tracker and it seems an unusual amount of surface rust under the hood and on the frame.

I have rust holes in the floor supports and in the driver side rear most pillar where the latches are for the back door.  It's got a fist size hole already back there.  It seems to be rusting from the inside out which makes me think they didn't put any paint (or similar) on the insides of the pillars and other various supports.  I've been keeping mine going but I've been seriously unimpressed with this vehicle.

Hey
I have a 91 Sidekick, and I had to replace the whole floor, all 8 body mounts and even front inner fenders, and some Frame when I got mine. thes vehicles rust easily and have thin metal. Was hard welding 1/8th in plate to it

I have a 2000 Chevy Tracker noticed some rust near body mount points as well but NOt severe and I was Able to Rust spray inside and out before it continued any further also replaced hardware with stainless or equivelent ......body mounts are usually the first to go on MOST vehicles due to the stress those mounting points go through and since the hardware that mount these items together is most likely not coated in any sort of rust protection chemical (or stainless stell is not used) it naturally rusts no matter how much you take care of it.......
