Jeff's spacer lift
« on: February 22, 2009, 10:30:24 PM »
Well, I finally got time to install the spacers.  I broke two bolts ( 1 in each lower strut mount) that were real fun to get out! I did have my camera there, but I didn't bring the battery charger with me. I took a few with my camera, but the rest are on our mechanic's camera so I'll have to get those pics up later. It was easy, other than the broken bolts, thank God(get fucked if that offends you) for air tools, air hammers in particular!

This is the only thing that caused any problems.

The spring didn't fit over the spacer. The only way it would work was to heat the top coil and bend it out til it fit.

The tires now look like this \  /  but that'll be fixed at 10am Monday ! I didn't put the stabilizer bar back on, I figured I'd see how it feels first. By the way, take it off if you want to put in spacers or longer springs, it helps a lot!

Now if these other guys would just stop putting ideas in my head. My wife didn't like me doing this and I already want to cut up my old 4 Runner for it's front end! She just don't have the sickness, and I think I might have a slight case setting in.

After you have your truck aligned initially, drive it for about 500 miles and be sured to take it back in and have the alignment "checked" again to allow the springs and spacers to settle in.   I failed to do this on the first lift and when I finally "got around to it"  had lost several thousand miles off the inside edge of my front tires.

Glad it all went together Ok. The spring issue has been had by others as well. Seems not all the springs are the exact same diam. Some springs fit perfect and others tight. I designed my spacers to fit tight but with difference in manufactures tolerances it is hard to make them all fit perfect. I totally agree with nprecon about the alignment. You may just wat to drive it for a week or so and then have it done. I have still never had mine aligned (4+ years!!) Thanks for posting the pics as well.

It's in getting aligned now. After I figure out what I'm going to do with the strut support bar I'll take it back in. The mechanic that took some pics isn't in yet today so the other pics will still have to wait til later.

I'll also be putting the running boards back on it. My daughter says it's too high for her to get into. They come off easy enough when I want to go play.

As it sits right now, it's just a bit over 2". It'll settle to 2" after some driving. I didn't notice any difference with the sway bar off, but I'm not going to stress anything til I get the strut support back in. I hope to have time to look at it again in a few days. As far as where to get them, PM  jeff1997, he'll set you up. I sure wish I had bought 30" tires instead of the 29's, it might fit 31's with some persuasion! Maybe by the time this set wears out, my wife'll let me cut and pound on it, or her ;)
