flat towing a sidkick with another?
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:16:01 AM »
its an odd question but im wondering, cause as far as i can tell from the laws i can find for flat towing another vehicle is it has to have independent brakes (trailer brakes) if its over 2000lbs or over half of the weight of the towing vehicle.

my question is, i have a 1990 suzuki sidekick with the masive 1.6L 8v. im wondering if it would be possable to flat tow another sidekick behind it. i know it wouldnt be liking going up hills at all but its better then having to drive both to get somewhere (looking at couple trips back and forth to bc (9 hour drive) theres some good sized mountains (rockies) but really, downshifting to get up hills doesnt bother me...

is it even legal to tow something the same weight as the towing vehicle?

You will have a REAL slow go over the Rockies. I'm talking if you have a pass over 8-10,000' you may be detaching the vehicle and coming back to get it. A short distance tow like that I would not worry about, but driving 9 hours over the Rockies will probably over heat the drive line and burn up tranny/axle/tcase fluid.

I have towed heave weights with mine but for lon longer than a couple of hours on level to rolling hills (and it was still scarry when brakeing).

darn... gotta get the girlfriend to get her colorado instead of the cobalt (shes wanting a newer car, but loves offroading. its a toss up between cobalt ss and another trackick or a colorado)
