Can I hook-up an Amp to my Stereo??
« on: July 07, 2005, 04:44:19 PM »
Is it posible to hook-up an amp to my stock stereo?? I've changed all of my speakers to Sony's and in the rear I put in 5 1/2.  Know I got my hands on a really good Kenwood Amp. Will it all go together??

yes it is there are two way to go about it. You can run a rca adoptor that cost usally about 20 buck or you could go the more harder rount and run hi output if you amp accepts it. the easist way is rca adptor as it ties into the rear speaker wires.

is it a 2 or 4 channel amp? bridgeable means you can bridge it down to one or to channels depending on how many you have and it will give it more power to that channel

Usually the manual for most amps will explain how to hook it up as well as the terminology. If the amp has speaker level input I'd use that. It would save you $20 for the adapter.

its a 2 channel amp. Did you just want to run your rear speakers? To run it with the stock stereo, connect your wires from the rear speaker output on the head unit, to the "high" level input on the amp.  Then from the amp connect the speakers.

go to canadian tire and look for the rca adapter and make sure that you know which is the + and - factory wires and hook up the amp accordingly ....you will also need atleast an 8gauge power cable coming from your battery with an inline fuse close to the battery....( the amp should have its own fuse) you will also need to ground the amp to metal close where you mount the amp and you also need to run an aux wire from you fuse box to start the amp with the ignition.

or

go get a cheap deck that has RCA outs and a (blue wire ussually) trigger wire ( to start the amp )  and make life simple also pick up the stereo adapter for the stock wireing this all should cost you no more that 150 bucks...
and if all else fails get someone to do it for 50 bucks.
