There's no way regular steel should be that much. My whole bumper so far has cost me less than $80, mostly 3/16" plate. I figure it will cost me about $80 more for material, and a flat of beer to finish.
Look around at demolition yards, and steel recyclers in your area.

well i figured out what was going on. the girl was new and she had no idea what she was doing. i called the place up, told them the price and the specs. the guy started laughing and was like maybe if you were buying 10 of them. so he told me to come in next week and ask for him and hell get me rolling  :)

well i took the old bumper off and after lifting it 30 times and trying to get my buddy to measure. i decided to throw the bumper in my metal scrap pile. maybe someone will buy it later.

This started with a HF universal mount.  It's 1/4" thick, then a 2 foot square piece of 3/16" to build the rest of the bumper.  Cost me about $30, just finished it the other day roughly 10 hours work.

Cool, now send me $300 for the idea

Here's 1 more.  I had a piece of heavy square tube added in front of the main body tube to mount my tow bar.  It's a might bit stronger than the stock and everything more or less mounts to it.  When I added the bumper I did a 1/4" piece of angle iron to catch the front bolts.  I'm pretty sure it's stronger by itself than the rest of the rig put together.

Would you happen to have any more pictures of you putting it on?

i asked a cop friend of mine over today and he said i should have no law issues if i do a bumper like yours so  :D  damn jersey has some stupid laws that makes lifted trucks hard to build

I have the trail tough tube winch bumper.  Its really nice and comes prepainted black.  I also have the XRC8 and it fit fine (think I needed longer mounting bolts for the winch).  Its built very well.  Here is a shortcut to their pic on their website:

You can see mine in my youtube video here:  (wasn't the main focus but you can see it on the vehicle)

I installed the control box under the hood.  For $299 plus shipping ready to bolt on it was a bargain for me.  Plus it has spots for the oem turn signals to be installed so its still street legal.

Yep.  I picked my xrc8 up from 4wheelparts as well but it was $299 which is still cheap.  They have awesome deals on tires too.  They'll mount and balance all four tires for around $50 if you buy matching rims and shipping to my door is only $90. Comes on a full size freight truck on a pallet and the driver will just cut the plastic wrap and drop them down to me one at a time.   ;D  I just bought my second set of tires from them for my ranger as they had buy one get one free on procomp tires and their rims.  Procomps were a $230 tire and the steel rims were about $80.  No basically I got $310 bucks off!  When I bought my 31" TSL's on 15 steels they were shipped to my door for $800 total.  I prefer not having to go find a tire dealer and spend an hour of them telling me which ones they actually have in stock.

On our SJ's we tend to zip tie the turn signal lenses behind the grill.  It's not exactly road legal, but you can see them fine between the headlight.  And it looks pretty cool.  :P
