Interesting that you had that problem on a Sami, I've only ever seen that on Trackicks before. Looks like you're in for a new crank and timing gear or possibly an excuse for a 1.6?  >:D

No new crank this ran to good I will do the Jb weld and loctite 609 or 620 trick and see if works before I tear ity down.

New crank. That keyway is way too bad to try to salvage.

x2 on what idaholwb sez.

It's been so long since I bought a re-man crankshaft (yep, same problem) that I can only guess here on a price.  Check your local auto parts store for an exact price.  You will need a core crankshaft to get the lowest price.

You might be able to find a salvage yard engine and have it reground and installed - or at least use it for a core because I don't think you damaged crank will be accepted as a core.

In case you were wondering what caused all this, take a look at my avatar.

I know several people that just used JB-WELD . I geuss the way to look at this is " what are you gonna do to the crank by doing it .  It is allready ruined. jb-weld is cheap. why not try it.

...If it will hiold a clyinder sleve it will hold a timing gear!

I don't know that I agree with that.  ???

A cylinder sleeve has a huge amount of surface area in comparison to the timing gear, and the forces are completely different. A cylinder sleeve is being pushed/pulled; the timing gear fights twisting/torque. Not even comparable forces.

Having said all that, what have you got to lose? If it doesn't work you still have a crank that's shot.  >:(

The issue to think about is: Where will I be when it fails? (and no offense, but I think it will.)

It seems they all leak oil from the camshaft seal.
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

Hi Guys
Well I cleaned up the end of the crank and keyway, mixed up some slow setting JB Weld and put the key in the keyway, slopped on the JB.Installed new front seal, hope it doesn't leak,it kinda shaved the plastic coating off the bottom of seal as I put it in.

I have used a product called devcon on things like that, it has a lot of metal in it and you can machine it, not cheap but better than replacing a crank.
