please help
« on: August 24, 2008, 01:24:30 PM »
i just rebuild my 1.3 motor and went to start it and it locked up tight i got it turning over again but it still feels tight. Before i tried to start it it turned over flawlessly no resistance at all

Complete rebuild (new sleeve in #4 cylinder, reman crank, 20 over pistons, matched bore and hone, master rebuild kit including cam, reman rods, new head, new valves, basically all that was used was the block.

it now turns over on the starter motor but you can tell it is struggling. i can turn it over with a ratchet but it is alot tighter than it used to be. i checked my valves and they are not hitting. i also dropped the oilpan to see if i broke anything on the lower end and it is all looks fine. the motor onlye started for a 1/2 a second and then gave up i tried to restart it and hten realized it was locked please help any advice please

I take it that you rebuilt the motor, did you lube the main and rod bearings?

I bet the oil hole in the head gasket is not lined up with the hole in the
block and head.

Remove the timing belt and see if the cam is hard to turn or the crank is
hard to turn, this will tell you if the head has to come off and replace the
head gasket and head if the cam journals and bearing surfaces are fried

The cam moves freely. So i think i am going to remove the spark plugs  and pull the sammy with my truck and see if i can free the motor up.

she's alive she started tonight and sounds better than new 6 months on a freakin motor rebuild. i don't know why i love the sammy so much but i do. i pulled down the street and back maybe a 1/4 mile total threw the plugs in and she fired on the first try no hesitation. but she is alive and will be wheeling in southwest florida soon
