I am rebuilding a 88 samurai that someone else tore apart and need some info on mounts.  I dropped the engine in today and bolted up the engine mounts and got it running.  But it seems like there is a lot of vibration or looseness.  Looking underneath the tranny I do not see any solid mounts for this.  Is this correct or am I missing an extra crossmember?  It has a round bar going accross the frame underneath it but I don't really see anything else attached to the tranny.  Just the attachement to the motor and to the transfer case.

You should have another cross member that goes across the frame just in front of the transfer case.  It should have a rubber transmission mount that will catch the rear of the transmission.  That would isolate any movement or  vibration from the tranny.   Hope that helps. 

Thanks.  I did find that and double checked the t-case and it was solid.  The tranny mount looked in one piece and took some effort to push up on it so I am guessing its ok.  Maybe the motor mounts are just getting soft.  I had a major issue with the engine and a bad rod that basically became a shattered piston.  I issume before that happened the bad rod could have been introducing the vibration so maybe the mounts are fine.
