Almost done project
« on: April 07, 2008, 06:03:42 PM »
Well everyone I finally got all my parts in for my 1991 1.6L 8v Throttlebody EFI swap to my 87 sammy, got everything in, and well when i start it, it starts for about 1 second then dies. but if someone sprays starting fluid itll stay running... now i looked in the manual and i looked at my injector power plug? and i pulled it and it still does the same freaking thing! no matter if it's plugged in or not! please you guys tell me its an easy fix as i am ready for cruising with the top off. PS the harness was done by trailtough. i also bought the fuel pump from trail tough and its running right ???

i'm sure this won't be much help, but it doesn't sound like an ignition problem if it'll pop with starting fluid.
must be something w/injectors or fuel pressure?
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.

Jump a hot wire straight from the battery to your fuel pump and then try running the vehicle.

Was everything running OK in the Tracker before the conversion?
2000 Vitara 1.6, 3+3 Lift, 33"MTs, 5:83s, LWB brakes, Winch, Snorkel, Safari Rack
1986 SJ413K PickUp, 1.6L conversion.

The cold start enricment is working, so you have fuel.  It starts, you have ignition.  My guess is the injectors arent working...

I would call Trail Tough, they are a good outfit, they can probably help you isolate the right circuit in no time at all.

They work on these all the time...

Well folks, found the problem and it's a weird one. I called Brent at TT and he told me it was the Noise Suppressor. So I went to the junk yard and the guy told me to just go ahead and take it... for free. That made me pretty happy and so i rushed home from work to install it to try it.... anddddd..... nope same thing!  :'( tired and discouraged that it would never run, I was about to put it away when I looked at the 3 prong connector to the N.S. and I noticed it had 2 browns and one black. Out of no where i just thought F it and i put a paper clip in to connect the two browns. Not thinking it would work I fired her up one last time... andddd BAM it stays running!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D   Kinda a weird fix but it's running good and my Sami has a wholeeeeeeeeee new feeling of power (all new petroworks clutch, new flywheel, new pretty much anything that needed replaced. THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!!!! ILL HAVE PICS UP SOON!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
