electric fan

any clearance tips for the fan motor from the belt??

Consider getting a front mounted fan. Changing timing belts and other stuff gets a whole lot easier.

Fair enough. I found the local breakers had a very good selection and very cheap too. Obviously I didn't have any clearance problems but when you do mount it, allow enough room for the engine to move about on its mounts and then a little bit more in case you break a mount. I had an electric fan on an old motorhome and the mount went, the engine pitched forward under breaking and the water pump pulley hit the fan. The fan blades then hit the rad and holed it  :( :(. I guess that you could use a jack under the gearbox as a rough test to see how far forward the engine might pitch.

Iv got a flex-a-lite fan in my sami and it seems like it has great clearance, never comes close to getting hit by the motor.  When i pulled the clutch fan off i have to cut down the 4 bolts that were holding it on so they would clear the fan, when they were reinstalled.

I put and electric fan on mine. Just removed the old fan and mounted the electric right in the old shroud. Fit nice, can't even see it. Not a fan of the front mounted fans for off road. They don't really like the mud and stuff. At least behind that are protected a bit.

I agree, also from what i heard it cools better as a puller than a pusher.

thanks for the input. my fan is the house brand.. hayden it has a rather large motor . i got the bigger one... don't wanna have to worry bout over heating. it clears the bolts on the pulley but its uncomfortablly close to the belt. my buddy kyle is the that put it in.. (finished 7th in the we rock in 07).
i guess he knows whats up... it just makes me nervous.

A larger fan doesn't necessarily mean more air flow, it just usually does.  :)

What you want to look at is the CFM rating of the fan, that is how much air it pushes.  If you get a fan out of a truck it probably won't push as much air as a slightly smaller fan out of a FF car, just because the car has to do much more work to cool the engine.

Saying that, you can probably get an electric fan out of a Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift and have it work fine.  Heck, some of the time they even had the same engine.  :)
