Engine disassembly question
« on: October 20, 2007, 12:53:31 PM »
I am replacing the front seal on lil Suzy and need some advise. I am having trouble getting the 17mm crankshaft bolt out to get to the seal. Two questions, 1, Which way does the bolt come off clockwise or counter-clockwise? 2, How do you hold the engine from turning while you break loose the bolt? Putting the vehicle in gear with the brake on does not work. I can't see any way to hold it at the flywheel. Suggestions? My wife (soon to be EX) has buried my factory service manual in the attic somewhere and I can not find it. So I am working with a downloaded Haynes manual and it is of very little help. Oh, she is a 89 with a 1.6 8V

Thanks, I apreciate it, I got it loose, I used a chain grip tool and a 14" breaker bar, worked great.
