Help, Samurai Owners w/ Calmini 3" Suspensions!
« on: September 09, 2007, 07:43:03 PM »
I recently purchased the Calmini 3" suspension for my 88.5 Samurai, under the impression that it was a fully bolt-on kit. Then I noticed that towards the end of the install instructions, it said that "REAR BUMP STOP EXTENSIONS REQUIRE WELDING TO FRAME ABOVE RUBBER STOP ON AXLE.KIT."

Is this true? Their shackle-reverse kit appears to have the same bump-stop extensions on the website pictures, and that one specifically says "no welding required".

For those who have done this before, is it a difficult welding job? I've got a friend who's a welding student, and he might be able to help out if it turns out it does need welding (I would have no idea what I was doing)

Thanks for your help.

Easy thing to do. It's a small piece of box tubing that is welded to the factory bump stop location on the frame. It is an "in position" weld with plenty of room.

One fella drilled holes and used self-tapping flange screws.  Worked fine and no welder.

Double check the directions, but I am sure the front ones are required (bolt-on) and that the rear ones are optional (based on tire size and clearance).
