Locker on a 4x2 questions

I am sure that this has been asked before, but I did a search and learned alot but did not exactly find my answer. 

I have a 1998 Chevy Tracker 4 door 2wd.  I miss my old 4x4 Sidekick that was lost in a tragic accident  few years ago.  I am wanting to outfit my Tracker for "light" offroad use (beach, a little mud and pulling my light boat trailer up the boat ramp), but mainly as a daliy driver.  I do not have the money or location to do a 4wd upgrade.   Long and short term cost is definitely an issue.

 ??? Are airlockers what I need or overkill? 
 ??? Will lockers, such as lock rights, be okay on a daily driver? 
 ??? Do lockers make tires and other parts wear prematurely?
 ??? I have heard that a 2wd with rear lockers do pretty weel compared to stock 4wd.  What is your opinion and/or experience?

Air lockers are not overkill they are just expensive.

LockRights are fine in a daily driver, they do make the truck handle differently so there is a learning curve.

Not so you would notice, as long as everything is working properly.

A long long long time ago I had a 2wd F150 which I had raised with larger tires and a welded rear end. I did quite well with it running the fire trails and hills of northern Michigan. I will stick with my 4wd but if I only had a 2wd I would probably see what it is capable of.

Of course I would also be saving for a SAS conversion at the same time. Dave  ;D

If you want to compromise you can get a Limited Slip locker.  Hawk Suzuki and Trail Tough both have them available.

I do not want to get a spool or weld it, because it is a daily driver

Lockers are pretty easy to install.  I usually do the work on the bench in an evening.  There is a writeup around somewhere.
