Strange Clunk Noise
« on: September 11, 2007, 11:01:32 PM »
So I bought this rig a couple of weeks ago and I know it needs a new throw out bearing because the clutch sticks right at the contact point which can lead to abrupt power to the rear wheels.

When this happens, I hear a clunk somewhere in the drive train.  This clunk also happens in second gear and when rapidly going from acceleration to deceleration.  I checked the play in the drive shaft and there is barely any.  I can get it to move just slightly maybe 1/64th of a turn.  Is that enough slop to warrant a U joint replacement?

The previous owner had a locker put in (I do not know which one) could this be the source of the clunk?  Is it normal for a locker to have some slop in it?

I have a Lock Right in mine and it has a tendency to "clunk" on decelleration from time to time.
If yours has one it may do this when it binds and un-binds... Somewhat normal for a Lock Right.
