going GREEN samurai!
« on: August 09, 2007, 04:47:32 PM »
I used to owned a 91 SIDEKICK, but "had" to sell it, and deeply regret it.......now I want to get a SAMURAI, and fix it to the max! but, the deal is that I want to go GREEN, so I think, if I can fit a DIESEL engine in it, and tranform it to BIO-DIESEL, that would make me (and willy nelson ) happy, but seriously; is there a diesel engine that would fit this rig? which one?

http://www.rocky-road.com/diesel.html

Probably not the best site to order from but it will give you enough information to get an idea of what has to be done.

Its a bit pricey to do this, and i think the engines are pretty hard to get a hold of.
Also i have heard that the diesel swap will throw off all of your gear ranges.

Every once in a while you will see a diesel built Sammy on EBay.  I could have put my hands on an engine for this when I was in the States but I had to leave for Korea.  There are a lot of posts for this on this BBS and on the net for it too.

bio-desiel samurai is one of my dreams that I will accomplish. Cool that you want to do it. VW radit desiels aren't to hard to find and I heard that with the RRO swap kit it will take you a day if your mechanical (of coarse that was a desiel mechanic experienced in this swap that said that). Good luck.

While the forum "search" idea is a fine one, try doing a search for diesel at http://www.acksfaq.com/.  There you will find links to several excellent diesel Samurai forums and at least one vendor.

Also, if you check ebay regularly with a search for VW diesel (or similar) you find 1.6 and 1.9 NA and turbo-ed engines that can be used in a Samurai.

Hope that this helps!
