84 and 85 are the best front axles to get, thats the year that they started to truss them from the factory, so there stronger.
79 to 83 will work just fine, im using an 83 for sammy.

But if your going to run an 86 or later rear end your going to need some 1.5" wheel spacers for the front, due to the 86 rear end being wider by 3 inchs.

Hope that helps

ya, toyota pickups and the 4runners, i think theres only 84 and 85 stright axle 4runners out there.

If you can you might want to grab a toyota front drive shaft.  You can use it to take the place of your stock sammy rear drive line, The toyota front drive shaft is a CV style.
You will want that if your going to be running a toyota rear end.
Again the 79-85 front drive lines are the best to get, there high angle.  But you can use an 86 to (not sure the year) there just not high angle.

I'm running a IFS rearend out of a 4 runner. It is the same width as a sidekick rearend or very very close. I am running I think an 84 front end because it has the truss with 1.5" wheels spacers.  I got the front axle off of craigslist for cheap like 200 bucks or something. I got the rear from a wrecking yard for 250.00.. I rebuilt both axles with all new bearins seal and brakes mostly from Kragen. you can order stuff from them online and any purchases over 250.00 ships to your house for free. Core deposits are included in the 250.00 It was a big job but I am pretty happy with the results.
