My boss has a sammi with 6.5:1 T-case gears and hes running a 33, stock axles and birfs...with lockers front a rear. Nothing has broken yet on it. The 6.5:1 work really good with 33's. 5th gear is usable and everything and its got some nice low gearing. Cant even stall it out with the breaks in 4 low, 1st gear.
If you were to just do R&P you would be able to do it but it might be a little bit harder off road, sammi gears are pretty low but there not that low might bogg out real easy driving up things.
What i was going to do was put in the 5.14:1 gears in, drop some 32's on it, then when i get a yota front end. Ill put that under the sammi change out the R&P (toyotas are cheaper) and run a 35 hopfully. If i did the calculations right it should work out good, Im pretty sure that the 5:14 T case gears will be low enough for me.
