i was looking into dropping a v6 into a samurai but im not sure how much power the stock axles and drive lines can handle i know the t-case will be fine. i would be getting 215 230hp and 280 300tq. i dont want to do an axle swap but i guess hardened axles are an option.

How big of tires are you running?  That is probably going to make more of a dent in your axle then just a big engine.

I knew a guy that dropped a 454 in a Chevy Luv (They had an engine and transmission... and a luv missing both in the back) and the rear axle handled the horsepower fine.  Then again, it's not like it could keep traction long enough to put any power down...

Not sure how much stress mud puts on the axles, but I know for rock crawling 33" is when you start running into problems with axles, u-joints & birfileds (SP?). If you're doing 31" - stock axles usually handle things just fine. And - if you go with an electronic locker, the company that makes them INCLUDES hardened axles (which they claim have never been broken yet). They're the same price as ARB when you include the air pump.
