Spidertrax 4.5" spoa lift
« on: February 14, 2007, 06:22:40 PM »
This lift doesn't come with any steering correction, or drive shaft spacers.  Do I HAVE to have these for a 4.5" spoa?

unless u wanna butcher ur old steering and make a hick Z link. the problem is that with ur old steering set-up the steering will run into ur leefs. if u wanted to get a cheaper kit u can buy z links or a drop pitman arm for around $100 but they wont be as solid as a spring over steering. if i were u id spend the lil extra now and make sure it will hold up. yes u do need drive shaft spacers. there fairly cheap but seem to come with most kits ive been looking at.  i havent done my spoa yet but im planning on goin with the sky kit. the only thing i really need to deal with is shocks which can be as cheap as 20 bucks a corner.

also did u concider that u will need longer brake lines?......

How soon are you looking to do this? I should have most of these parts available here in about month or so.  And you can go red neck on the brake lines for a while to get you by till you can get the longer ones. Just remove them from the frame brackets and let them hang. Like I said, red neck but works for a while.

This was the one I was looking at.  I would EVENTUALLY get longer shocks, but stay stock at first, and the kit comes with DS spacers, and new extended brake lines.  All I would need If I understand ya'll right is steering correction.  I'd rather not fork over $300 for that though.  I'm not going to go crazy off road.  Hell, most of the lift is for looks only.  I'm way to timid to slam my vehicle on some huge boulders just for the sake of climbing them.  Maybe a little mild off road trail and SLIGHT mud.  At least until I have built it all up to handle it.

Thanks for any input.

Main purpose of the lift is to clear 30-31" tires and still have a good lifted look, and not have the tires take up the whole wheel well just in the parked position.

if all ur goin for is looks and to cleat 30-31" tires take a look at my sami
its sitting on 30" right now. the only susp mod done to it is 2" lift shackels. that would be ur cheapest route by far, and u dont have to worry about nething

How does it ride on those lift shackles.  Ecveryone says it makes for a horrible ride on the road.  Sounds like that will be my best place to start.  Now I just have to find those online.

They don't get quite as bad as you think. A lot would depend on whther you used your stock leafs, some OME's or YJ's. I have a friend running YJ's and I think his rides smoother than mine in stock configuration.

low range has 2" shackles posted in the garage sale section. I would make sure to replace the stock bushings with polyurethane, it will stiffen it back up a little.

here is a pick of my "hick" z-link and spoa sammi running 30". Home made z-links should be lengthened to correct the prob of hitting the springs and better handle'n
SAS Tracker! No looking back now.

well yea lol... yj's leefs arent nearly as stiff as stock sami's. i was talkin if he keeps his stock springs.
but u bring another option to the table. u could swap out ur stock springs for some yj springs, that will give u about 3" of lift if i remember correctly, and it would also give u a softer ride. if u went to a wrecker u could get em pretty cheap
