« on: October 25, 2006, 02:25:05 PM »
I'm lookin to do a tire upgrade in time for winter and i need somethin with some meat. My question is How much bigger can i go on tires, and that will allow me a little more ground clearance without causing problems. The rig is stock suspension. Any thoughts.? Maby something off of a Samuria.? Any info appreciated thanx guys.

seeing how you have a tracker, you can sneak in 235/75/15, which is a very popular size

Didn't you have to use spacers to get the 15" wheels to clear the brake calipers?

IIRC, the Trackers have smaller brakes than the G-Vit, and are equipped stock with 15 inch wheels.

yup, i can verify this as r3cc0s and i have been giving each other a hand working on our trucks (his a tracker, mine a GV). The tracker rotors are definitely smaller and quite thin. Interestingly, trackers that came with V6's also have the smaller brakes so they can fit 15's. Just the Grand Vitara can't

My 01 has a 2.0 ltr inline 4 with 15" After market rims. I talked to my dad who has Calminis Custom 2 door vitara. ( the sweet azz white one with the decals, yeah that one lol) Hes saying I wont be able to fit anything bigger than what i have on there now which are...205/70/15 good years. The only way I wouold be able to ( up the meat) is to grab Calminis Lift. But what i dont understand is which lift will fit my Tracker. Will Calminis 2 or 3 inch lift fit fit my trackers stock set up.? Let me know what ya think.

As rc330s said, with absolute minimal rubbing of the tire on the frame at full lock (seriously, it hurts nothing, and if your tread doesn't have big lugs, you might not even know), you can go 235-75/15 on stock rims with only adding 1" spring spacers (and an alignment).  Anything smaller than that, no lift necessary, and even at that size, depending on your wheel's backspacing, you might not even need the spacers.  But you'd be happy you did.  Leaves you several tire choices wider and/or taller than those 205/70s.

Besides, my 2003 Tracker came from the factory with 215-75/15, so your dad's on crack.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

mine also came with 215's  you can fit a 235/75/15 tire in there without problems, i had some 30's with no lift, these were worn to crap but basically measured just under 29.  no big lugs, no problems.  the calmini lift for yours is 2.5 inches.

I kinda forgot to mention that the rims are not the same size rims that are on a stock rig. If i recall correctly The rims that are on there now are an 7.5-8.0 wide rim. So in order to get the right tire im lookin for Id have to find a set of 7.0 rims to put on. Unless I can find a set of beefier tires that will fit the 7.5"-8.0" 15"rims that are on there. Let see if this will jog your brains a bit.  ;D
