Good Deal?
« on: January 27, 2007, 07:37:34 AM »
Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has been into Samurai's for a long time now.  He has three 1986 4x4 Samurai that he is willing to sell to me for $400.  None of them run but will all three of them I should be able to make a nice one with a lot of spare parts.  One has a nice body and interior but a blown engine.  The other has a body beat to pieces and absolutely ruined interior but the engine somewhat runs.  The other has a decent body and pretty rough interior and the engine has a crank problem.  All of them have good drivetrain, tranny, front and rear ends.

What do you guys think is that a decent deal or should I shop around.

I like the idea of having a small 4x4 with solid front and rear axles.

I have to concur. Even if you don't need all of those spare parts, there sounds like there is more the $400 worth of parts to sell off. If you have the space, I don't think you can lose on that deal.

Yeah I'm pretty good with tools and stuff and I have some room I could store the vehicles over at my mom's house.  I live close and my dad has a nice garage I can use to rebuild one of them.

I'm going to go have a look at the trucks today but I have a few questions that maybe you guys who have a bit of experience with these vehicles can help me with.

How expensive is it to rebuild one of these engines?  Are there any really expensive parts that go out very often?  I've noticed there are two different engines 1.0 and 1.3?

What are the best suzukis to have?  Like which ones are the toughest?

Thanks.

Engines are really inexpensive to rebuild. If you are doing a complete rebuild of the whole truck you might want to consider upgrading the stock 1.3 to a 1.6 (either 8 or 16 valve). I lean towards the 16 valve myself but that is personal preference.

As far as the toughest, it all depends on how you build it and what you want to do with it.

just my .02.

Steal them for $400 ...shop rebuilt 1.3 for $900 - 1200 including rebuilt kit. If you rebuild one of the 1.3 get a better cam and a header and maybe a Webber carb if your smog laws allow. Stock 1.3 is very under powered even on stock tires. You gotta make em breath better.  ;D

Yep, it's a "no brainer"

Buy'em, get ONE running, sell the rest of the parts and have a Free Sammy.

You might even make a buck, or just keep all the spares, either way, you can't go wrong.

Thats like asking which Suzukis have wheels.   They all do.   Theyre all the toughest!!

Ive seen Sammies, Trackers, Kicks, and Swifts go through HELL and they just keep on running.   I just sometimes dont understand it.

Heres a Chevy Sprint (Basically same as Geo Metro, Suzuki Swift).   Look at what this bastard has gone through!!   150K and 2 oil changes, what the hell.

Proof of Suzukis ability to get beaten.
