Service Engine Light - P0440
« on: November 13, 2006, 08:31:14 PM »
Need some help fellow zuki lovers. My 2000 2.5 litre Grand Vitara has given me the Service engine soon light 4 times now with the same P0440 code coming each time I scan with the OBD II scanner. Replaced the gas cap as per my Suzuki dealers advice and now I am stumped. Anyone else out there have this issue? 440 is a Evaporative Emmisions System Malfunction?

Check the pipes around the charcoal canister. Also the electrical connections to the Vacuum Solenoid Valve (VSV).

fuel tank vent malfunction,  possilbe faults are- faulty evap canister purge valve, blocked fresh air line, leaking line between evap canister and intake, purge valve incorectly installed or leaking. this fault means that it is not seeing a change in the o2sensing when the purge valve is activated.find the purge valve and use a 12v source to activate it and listen for it to click and the check the fresh air line for a clog possibly mud from off roading.   hope that helps
good luck with your diagnosis   ;D

Thanks guys this is all awesome. Just a couple of novice questions, where do I find these lines and evap canister? And where is the fresh air line, and the Purge valve?

you may need to invest in a factory repair manuel.i do not have the diagrams you will need
to identify the purge valve or the path of the fresh air line
