Idle Problem

Idle Problem

I have a problem with the idle on my 1.6 Vitara.

When I pull up to a stop the revs die down to nothin and the check engine light starts to flicker and it will either stall or the revs pick up and will idle at 600rpm after a couple of seconds.
Gets to be a bit of a pain when it can’t decide what it wants to do and you are trying to pull away at the lights while revs are up and down.

Any ideas on what to check??

It sounds like a ideal solenoid might be going bad.  I'd have to check the manual to see about replacing one.

Some you can just replace and they "find" them selves and others theres a procedure you have to fallow.

Just a thought.

   I have / had that same problem too for a couple of months.  I took it to a local shop and they ran some type of cleaner through it (can't remember what now).  Said they thought it might just be carbon build up.  That improved it very slightly.  Computer check showed everything fine.  It continued for another month then went away on its on!!  ;D  I wouldn't be surprised if it returns though.

Yes mine showed everything ok on a computer check but??
Having it checked tomorrow but someone else.

mine's been doing it since the summer.

When i worked at Suzuki the head mecanic told me it's gunk on the throttle body.  i need to remove everything and get to the throttle body itself and he said take gumout or some other type of similar cleaner and scrub all around the inside of the throttle body.

it invovles alot of crap to get to the TB so i've been lazy to do it....but it's starting to get on my nerves so i'll be doing it soon.

Jookie seems to be spot on...

I don't know much about vehicles, certainly not as much as many people on this board, but I've had the same problem with my 80's oldsmobile.  I had to get into the throttle body & clean it out, put it all back together, and it worked like new.

At first it sputtered & the RPMs fluctuated a bit, but after running for about 30 seconds it jumped right to where it should be and haven't had a problem since.
