Well, on to the next thing.
The existing hubs (manual) on my sidekick are tightning up, and though I could probably lube them, (drivers side is stuck and broke, it won't pull the clutch gear off the shaft) I decided to get a set of new warn premium hubs. They worked well for me in the past on my old Jimmy, so I am trying them now. Anyhow, do any of you have a problem with getting those six bolts out that hold the hub body on the hub assembly? I broke two of them off already, one came out, and I don't wanna touch it till I see if i am doing something wrong. extracting them is a pain in the ass.  Any help?

no help from me, just that I had the same exact problem with my tracker......pain in the a$$.....try heating the housing  and lots of PBlaster, my .02

I broke one off on each side, doesn't seem to affect it, so they are being left in. I may eventually drill them out.......

The washer under the bolts is actually a cone shaped locker.  When the bolt is tightened, it forces the cone down into a hole.  As it goes down into the hole it compresses onto the bolt.  Thus, locking it in place.

I've had luck taping the side of the cone (it will look like a washer) with a hammer and small chisle, side to side.  Try loosening to bolt, mabe taping the cone side to side again.

It also wouldn't hurt if the bolts were soaked in a good lubricant for a day or so.

P.S.  The ones you broke off still have a good portions of the bolt left.  Tap the cones off and you will probaly have enof thread left to grab a hold of and remove when the hub is removed.

I beleave Mike went to a stud instead of a bolt because of this problem.

The cone ones on mine are all fine, the 2 that broke are the ones holding the hub onto the assembly.

Those suckers were a pain in the ass.  I ended up breaking off one more, total of 3, before i broke out the hot wrench.  Not propane either.  I nuked the hub with the oxycetylene torch till the area was a pretty yellow.  The bolts decided they had enough.

My new hubs look cool as hell.

Now to get that exhaust leak fixed.

Factory service manual list to take a brass punch and directly hit the center of the bolt at a force to break cone washer free. Well after breaking 5 out of 6 bolts the other side went really easy doing it the correct way.

Now that you've made the switch to Warn Premium hubs, your hub bolts will no longer stay tight.  Even with lock washers, and loc-tite.

My sources say "no".

Going from the stock bolts to the Spidey "upgraded" bolts cut it way down - I think I've had one or two of those back out (I check 'em every time I wheel, pretty much).  Going up to these beefy critters, is supposed to reduce it to zero.  I have them, but haven't installed them yet.  Think I'll put on new rotors at the same time.

I was happy all moring, then you go a piss on my parade.  The thing loosens up??!!!!

When I installed it I figured there was a chance of this (does not use those cone washers....those....evil....washers.....)

Is there anyone who makes a good new hub assembly with the same diameter bolt holes as the holes in the warn locking hub?

BTW, I used all new grade 8 bolts with lock washers and torqued the bolts nice and tight.

One other thing... how long till yours loosened up after install?

Depends on how hard you wheel it, I guess.
Mine were OK for quite awhile - then I noticed one was loose.  Best to inspect them when you go to lock the hubs in.

The $30 kit really should eliminate this problem completely!  Spidertrax wheels their buggies HARD in competition, so they know what it takes...

Took a look at the bolt set, and I think I will go for it.  If anyone has actually installed this kit, lemme know if you had a problems before I actually by the thing.  I don't wanna buy it then have the tap break off in the hole because it was made of cheap metal.

Other thing, does this kit make the holes in the warn hub larger, or just enlarges the ones one the truck to match the warn unit?

First, if you break a tap off, it's because you're rushing it too much!  I have the full set, and it's good quality stuff!

It also enlarges the holes in the Warn Hub, so you get one drill bit to drill out the Warn hub mounting holes, and another drill bit to drill out the pilot holes for tapping the other side.
