Anti-Freeze
« on: June 26, 2006, 01:50:26 PM »
Man, I can not catch a break.

I seem to leaking anti-freeze.  I replaced the thermostat.  I put a new rubber gasket on the thermostat and I put a new gasket around the housing the thermostat sits in.  It never leaked anti-freeze before. but now about every week my reserve bottle is low or empty.

The only thing I can think is I put the thermostat in wrong there is a little part in the rim of the thermostat the moves.  I thought it said to put that so it points to the front of the car.  But im not sure.

Any Ideas?

Check all the little hoses under the intake manafold, (while it is hot for leaks) when cool you will often not see them, also behind the water pump is a tube that has an oring that can leak.
(this is for 1.3L-1.6L 8+16v don't know about the newer 2.0's etc)
once you have that narrowed down it may be time for a cooling system test.
you could have a bad head gasket also..   (not saying you do but it is a possibility)

I replaced the gasket that goes on the thermostat housing with RTV.  That is what suzuki dealer recommended.  But I dont think that was the problem all a long.  I took a 15 min trip got back to my house popped the hood to check on everything.  It looks like my lower radiator hose is what was leaking all a long.  Well at least I think I have it figured out now.

Also just to let you know that little valve in the thermostat does go toward the front of the motor.  if it doesnt you can have overheating problems.  it allows air pockets to get past to filter out.
