Turn Signal Assembly
« on: June 19, 2006, 10:54:49 AM »
Hello,

I was messing around with my turn signal assembly trying to get the delay to work with the wipers.  Well long story shot I messed it up and need a new one.  Can anybody tell me if the assembly off a tracker will work with a sidekick.  The assemblies look identical, but a salvage yard told me they are not compatiable.

If it looks the same (bulb, connector, and color), then it is the same.  I've noticed sometimes between trackers and sidekicks that sidekicks have yellow turn signals vs. clear in the trackers.

what year is your sidekick??

Things changed a lot on the '96 model year.

I have a working unit out of a '96 Tracker that I'd like to sell.  I bought it thinking I had a switch problem -- turned out to be the flasher unit.

are you talking about the "multifunction switch" in the steering column? if so, then what year?

I'd bet money a kick and trac "multifunction switch" will be the same as long as you get the correct <95 or 95+ version ...

BTW, get some pics ... I've been meaning to see what might need to be soldered in to get my INT wipers to work ...

I'm sure they're the same as long as it's a like year, or similar. Some Salvage yards seem to think they're different because they have a different name....

X2 Do they all fail after time? I've been asking what the problem is on different forums since I bought mine 3 years ago, everyone has the problem, but doesn't know how to solve it ;) I'd love to get mine working as it's usually raining or at least wet where I live.

Well I have sourced a assembly out of a junk yard from a sidekick to be safe.  Bought the plug and wires are identical.  When I took mine apart to fix the delay problem, besides messing it up real bad, I saw that mine was not capable of delay.  The knob has INT written on it but no loose wire or anything.

If you plan to take this off its not hard.  Take the steering wheel off and 4 screws that hold the assemble to the shaft.  After that on the backside of the assembly there are 6 screws that hold done the plastic and circuit board.

Personally I dont recommend takin it a part. For these reasons.
1. There a several springs inside that may pop out
2. Several lead balls that might pop out (used to keep you on parking lights, low beams (etc)
3. When trying to get it back together if you bump one of the knobs all the plastic pieces fall out and need to be realigned (frustrating)

If you do take it apart unplug the wires bring the assemble inside and carfully take the back off and then take a picture.  This way you have some idea where everything went.

Oh do not attempt to turn the knobs that how I shoot a spring and pellet out and did not know where they went.

I will try to take some pics of my old assembly when I get chance.

yea, I think the INT function was an option ... from the FSM I think there's a relay that is soldered into the circuit board of the MFS (multi function switch), that when present, gives you INT and if missing, well ...

maybe you'll get lucky and your new MFS will have the relay  ;)

pics of the 2 units would be nice to see (and yup, it does appear to be a PITA which is why I haven't gone into it yet!).

I just could not be that lucky. My used new one from the junkyard does not have INT.

I will get pics up asap. I have work and a class all week. So maybe friday night.
