I did that to my accords tan carpet.  It works pretty good. Does not stain clothes well at least when its dry.  Never got it wet.  I will wear off in place where stuff rubs.  Like where my foot rubs the wall next to my gas pedal the carpet is back to its orginal color.

I've seen it before matched to tan carpet in my old cherokee.  it worked well and you couldn't hardly tell as long as it's applied evenly.  Careful now though, cause someone will chime in here in a second and tell you to rip that carpet out, that it only causes rust...   I like it cause it's not so loud inside, and i don't fill it up with mud and water like some others do.

uhh, would that be me   ::)

I will chime in tho and say "rip that carpet out", and replace it with a DIY undercoat (aka herculiner), and then add in easily removable pads. For $40 or so, you can get the thick rubber mat used for pickup bed mats, cut that to a nice fit and get a nice black rubber floor that's easy to pull for cleaning.

in a not so toungue in cheek suggestion ...

WHEN you pull the carpet (you will pull it to paint it right?) ... scrape off the "padding" since that's the sponge that holds water and promotes rust. Also, scrape free what's stuck to the floor as well. Then you can see if the floor is showing signs of rust. Any surface rust spots you see, wire brush it down good, and spot spray that with a rust inhibiting paint.

Up to you what to reinstall (it's your rig so your choice).

I've done this on 2 different rigs (both got herculiner). On one I cut the carpet to simply cover the tunnel between the seats, but left the floor with the herc, and then added rubber mats. The other is just herculiner at the moment, but I think I'll add some "truck bed rubber mat" cut to fit nicely.

I understand wanting to keep the carpet in a DD.

The carpet alone doesn't hold too much water and dries out, it's the padding underneath that once wet seems to stay that way FOREVER ... that's why I say scrape that felt pad off.

My water intrusion is usually from a longhaired shepard that like to wade in the mud every chance she gets. I pretty much HAVE to hose down my floor every other trip out  ;D

Does the rust under the carpet happen on california cars (ones that have been stored most of their life away from the sun and the elements, but was only used during the winter(aka my 1990 tracker ;D ;D) I was wondering if anyone makes a vinyl kit for it, because I dont know if rubber mats and bedliner would be too appealing to any female passengers I might encounter ;D, (although I think it would be a neat idea, but it is probably a lot noisier inside ;))
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

If you use that roofing tar stuff, it'll deaden some sound too. It's cheap at a hardware store.
