Brake Dust...
« on: April 02, 2006, 07:03:26 PM »
Hello, a newbie here from Mesa, AZ.

I just bought an '06 Grand Vitara 2wd for my wife a couple of weeks ago.  It seems like a great vehicle at a great price.

The only dislike I have so far is the excessive brake dust.  From what I see the OEM pads are EBC GreenStuff.  My Crossfire had a bad dust problem and EBC pads were recommended to me as a low dust pad... wrong.  I took them off after a month.  They produced just as much dust as the OEM pads, if not more.  I then went to Rotex Gold pads... very low dust and no noise.

My question... has anyone been able to find low dust aftermarket pads for the GV?  I've searched every site from tirerack to brakeworld without any luck.  It seems like the GV is too new and no one is making them yet.

Any ideas on how to stop the brake dust?

I would call the dealer up and find out if the front brakes are the same as the 99 to 05 GV's or XL-7's.  Which I would guess that they are and just search useing one of them.  Or you could look in to one of those dust shields things.

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary on mine.

I guess it depends on your definition of ordinary and how you feel about always having to clean your wheels every 200 - 300 miles.

As you know, almost all disc brakes today (especially in the front) produce a lot of black dust, some way more than others.  If you have chrome wheels the dust is not as noticeable. Rotex Gold pads produce very little dust and they keep your wheels very clean.  You get about 95% less dust than most other pads.

I put the EBC Greenstuff pads (which are OEM on the GV) on my Crossfire because they were recommened to me as a low dust pad.  They stayed on the car for three months until I switched over to the Rotex Gold pads after several members of my Crossfire forum highly recommended them as a very low dust producing pad.

I guess it all boils down on how anal you are about keeping a vehicle spotless with the least amount of work.
