Newbie needin help
« on: February 17, 2005, 12:00:29 AM »
Firstly hi to everyone just bought a 1990 vitara 1.6 fat boy and  am very impressed with it its great being able to just drive it not having to worry about  kerbing expensive alloys or dentin or scratchin it ;D.
I am having a few probs at the moment firstly it has the 8v 1.6 with the carb and on cold starting in the mornings its a pig is this normal,i find it best to let it warm up just by leaving it ticking over till the auto chokes done its stuff once warmed up it drives perfect but like i said on auto choke its nearly impossible to drive.
Also it doesnt have power steering and this added to huge tyres makes for some intresting driving :o i thought my ford RS2000 tramlined but this truck is scary would the calmini steering damper kit make a huge difference to this.
any help would be most appreciated ;)
from the fast lane

Welcome. I would just say to wait till the motor has watmed up and the choke cut off any way (to save extra engine abuse).

I drive with out PS for years and running 33's on my Sidekick (Vitara). I finally broke down and put powersteering on it and only wished I would of done it earlier. If the steering is sloppy on top of hard to turn look at replacing your ideler arm, and any other worn componets. It made all the difference in the world for mine.

if u r running 31" tires or larger get the calmini dampener it made a huge differance in mine especially under hard braking. however powersteering and the trail tough idler arm upgrad made it even better. check everthing first for worn parts, but i would do the brace and the idler arm upgrade anyway. powersteering is a bit pricy unless u can find it at a junk yard.
