Hooking exhaust into new header
« on: March 05, 2006, 11:49:54 AM »
So i'm the proud owner of a set of Hawk's 16V headers.  The only problem is i have no desire to replace my stock exhaust cause it's already 1 7/8", and it's in great shape.  Now i know it would be better with a high flow cat and better muffler, but for the costs of it, the benefits aren't really worth it to me since it's driving just fine right now.

So i was going to hook in the header to the original pipes, but after extensive "checking", i see that the headers with the small piece that needs to be welded in place (the gasketless coupler thingy), that those hang down just as far as the stock pipe does, which is a major problem in my books.  I have already hit that pipe several times and was expecting that the header would be raised up just a fraction over stock.  Instead it appears that it will decrease my clearance to the ground.

So at this point, i'm considering just keeping it stock.  I won't pay some dude $50 plus an hour to mess with it cause i'm already in it for $300.  I'd just as soon get the 300 back and work on something else for the kick.

So has anyone else installed one of these on a 16V to a stock exhaust?  If so, how did you hook it in?

If you have hit the exhaust pipe, you need a skid
plate or a full belly pan, I mean my cat and muff are
scrapped up but not that bad
