WORLD PREMIERE OF SUZUKI COMPACT SUV CONCEPT AT 2005 NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

BREA, Calif. (March 2, 2005) - Just months after debuting its vision for the midsize SUV category, American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) celebrates the world premiere of an entirely new compact SUV concept - the Suzuki Concept-X2 (pronounced "concept x two") - during its New York International Auto Show press conference on March 24, 2005 at 10:50 a.m., at the Suzuki display, #1215, in the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

Suzuki has leveraged its SUV expertise to create the Concept-X2 for the compact SUV segment. Sporty lines fuse with elements of stability and functionality to achieve a rugged yet refined vehicle that emphasizes owner sophistication while acknowledging the need for drivers to break free and seek out adventure.

"I like to think that our passion and commitment to excellence have produced a compact SUV so exciting and fun that people will want to drive it wherever they go," said Koichi Suzuki, president of ASMC Automotive Operations.

Working with the product concept of "off-road athlete," Suzuki engineers and designers developed the Concept-X2 the same way athletes train for all conditions - refining capabilities and enhancing cross-country performance.

Concept-X2 is the second sport-utility concept from Suzuki this year. In January, the company unveiled the Concept-X midsize SUV at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Intended to put a fresh perspective on the midsize SUV segment, Concept-X fuses cutting-edge features with unprecedented interior, exterior, safety and performance features.

Judging from that tail light pic it looks like it's going to be an Equinox clone.  :(

ok lets start speculating shall we.

i'm hoping for body on frame, and solid axle front, and rear. nice open wheel wells for bigger tires.

so if anyone lives in NY, and can attend this show take a digi cam, and crawl underneath to take pics when no one is looking  ;)

we'll find out anyway soon enough though.

here is hoping  ;D

I was the only person getting underneath the SUV at the Autoshow in Toronto.  People there thought I was mental.  ;D

Now is it possible that it can still be a body of frame design even though to the untrained eye they may look the same?

But I can't see why they would go through so much trouble of producing two different vehicles on one assembly line.

I deliver coffee to an auto subcontracting company that manufactures the plastic mouldings for cars like dash boards and what not and they had what looks like a Pontiac version of the Equinox body on display.

It would seem to me that this is just another GM cookie cutter vehicle.

I'll tell you what, I own a 2000 Tracker and now we just got a 2001 XL-7, it would be a HUGE MISTAKE for Suzuki to stop building these.  Or at least not have a new body on frame design.  Just my .02    Dave

If you've read the article from Forbes which there was a thread for it. It said the X2 is comming from Japan, not CAMI :)

and people you need to be more optimistic here, I mean come on  >:( Suzuki will come through  ;)

not looking good,  i was at the supermarket this afternoon to pick up some stuff and stopped by the magazine rack.  in this months Motor Trend a small article about this trucklet was titled "more of the same" and it basically said it all, this is just an Equinox,  but in an iteresting note it said it's going to come with all kinds of stuff the EQ doesn't have.  and it's...i think it said 6 inches....longer than a Chevy EQ so it could have 3rd row seating.  but it's a chevy clone not doubt about it, so all bets off on B.O.F.  sure it will still be a good vehicle, just not the one we're waiting for.

ok you guys aren't getting it. there are two suv's comming from suzuki. one being the equinox "concept x" clone comming out of cami in ontario in 2006. the other being a smaller suv comming from japan "concept x2"  this fall.

the one debuting at the nyias on the 24th is the concept x2 from japan. now it might be a all wheel drive pos but then again it might not.

we'll know in three weeks.
