No 4wd?-I got stuck in the creek.

How does you getting stuck in the creek PROVE you have no 4WD?  You could be stuck simply because of a lack of traction - you only need to loose traction on front & one rear wheel at the same time.

The pump does kick on sometimes. When it kicks on there is air flow at the pump.

If the pump does not turn on EVERY time you apply power to the red & black wires, then there is a problem with it - you can gently pry the square cap off and check where the wires are soldered to the board, see if they are loose.

First question - how do you know you have no 4WD?
Second question - have you considered checking for air flow directly at the pump?

Take the pump off the vehicle, there are two bolts that hold it, two rubber hoses and a three wire electrical connector - the three wires should be one each, red, black & pink, connect a 12V power source (you can use the vehicle battery) to the red & black wires, the pump should run and you should get air from one of the two hose connectors.

Quick & easy - it either works or it doesn't - and if it doesn't, it can be disassembled and in many cases repaired.

It's on a 2001 2.0 Tracker. I'm just getting a slow flashing light, no 4wd.  I separated the metal and rubber lines on the differential end and wasn't getting any air.  After some checking, figured out that the line was blocked with corrosion for about 3-4 inches. I cut that out and replaced to get air flow, still no 4wd.  I ran tubing from air pump straight to differential to bypass the restricted factory line (just in case) and still no 4wd.  Next step is to try using a "squeeze bulb" attached to differential to test the internal actuator. Hoping it's the pump.

What's wrong with your air pump?  They are usually quite easy to repair.

Has anyone found a reliable source for 4wd actuator air pumps?

Suzuki 4x4 Forum / Worth swapping a '04-'06 XL7 steel front to GV?
« Last post by Urbex on November 24, 2024, 09:16:00 AM »
I find myself in a bit of a dilemma.  I have a 2004 XL7 4x4 auto sitting here with some issues that I don't really feel like fixing.  I have a extremely modified Samurai rock crawler needing an engine, that I previously swapped a GV 2,0L in to, that really isn't enough to turn the 37" tires on it now even before the engine issues.  Last, I have a 2002 GV 4x4 that I've been building to be the do-it-all DD/off road toy, and was planning on going to a 32" tire.

I'm aware that the '04-'06 XL-7 used a completely different front axle design than the '01-'03 models.  I'm aware that the '01-'03 axle is the preferred model as it's a near direct swap.  I'm looking at this specifically because it's an "I already have it" axle, and have the entire XL7 as a donor if needed.  I've been looking on and off for the earlier axle for a while, and haven't found anything outside of buying an entire car, and I'm not spending several thousand just to get the axle, lol.

I'm not concerned about fabricating mounts for it, but from a strength standpoint, is it even worth swapping it in place of the '02 GV front?  I'm finding TONS of threads various forums on the swap using the earlier axles, and not a thing on making the later axles work, or saying it's not worth because X...

I'm thinking if I can move the axles over to the GV, then I'll throw the engine in the Samurai, part out the rest, and won't feel so bad about what I might have lost by not just selling it whole.  Otherwise I'll just go V8 in the Samurai, and use whatever I can get out of the XL7 as proceeds towards that project.

Suzuki 4x4 Forum / Re: HARMONIC BALANCER CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SPINS

You would have to an extremely talented welder to be able to weld that back together and get it it to work, and I don't see that happening without removing it from the engine, so just replace it.

Both belts broke and the harmonic balancer pully outer part turns  my question is can i weld it or have to replace it  i was told it is hard to replace have to take radiator out rent a pulley puller.

Trying to milk a little more pep from this little 1.6L. I'm planning on installing a thorley header and exhaust. Also nology wires in addition to a few other things.

My question is about air intake. I want to delete the air box and put on a larger K&N type cone filter. What do I need to know? Surely someone on here has done this before.
